Taiwan, a picturesque island once known to westerners as “Formosa” a century ago, is now a densely populated concrete forest thanks to tremendous economic development and sharp rise in population. The majority of Taiwanese spend a good part of their lives in poorly ventilated concrete boxes. However, these energy consuming, high polluting buildings are actually accomplices in the acceleration of global warming. After repeated ravages by mother nature, Taiwanese began experimenting and exploring the various possibilities of green buildings over the past decade, from schools, factories, to conventional residences. One after another, these green buildings that breathe re-engaged the cordial dialogue between Taiwanese and nature.
